What can Healthy Families do for my family?
Healthy Families can help your confidence as a parent grow as you improve your parenting skills and abilities. Research shows Healthy Families works for many families, from first-time teen parents to families with other children.

How Healthy Families Work?
Services are voluntary and provided at no cost by caring and knowledgeable Support Specialists who offer in-home services (home visits) to support your family with the unique changes and needs that often come with the birth of a new child. The partnership can begin during pregnancy and lasts until your child is in school or Head Start.
What types of services do you provide?

Services include connecting families to community resources; providing information on your developing baby, newborn, and growing child; strengthening your existing parenting skills and abilities; promoting learning through play; health and safety education; connecting your family with medical and mental health providers; and screening your child to see if they’re learning basic skills.

What’s next…
A specially trained staff member will contact you to explore your family’s unique needs. After this discussion, you may be offered on-going support and provided with referrals to services in your community that can help you meet your needs and goals.

Additional ways a Support Specialist can support your family:

Connecting you with medical providers for prenatal/well-baby visits and immunizations.
Demonstrating activities for you to practice with your child to increase bonding and to stimulate cognitive and physical development.
Assessing your child for developmental milestones and providing referrals for early intervention if needed.
Helping your family access community resources and services, such as job training, ESL classes, legal services, High School Equivalency diploma preparation classes (formerly GED), and health care.
Providing opportunities for you and your family to attend social and educational events to establish connections with other parents of young children and share parenting experiences, successes, and challenges.
Healthy Families Rockland County works to nurture healthy parenting for healthy babies.
